Production flow of androids
The chart below, explains the flow of android production. This is merely an example, and the processes may differ according to terms and specifications of your particular, chosen android. Production usually takes approximately six months.
STEP1
Specify requirements
Based on the received order, A-Lab will assess the requested Android’s specifications, facial expressions etc. and submit a quote, which will then be followed by contract procedures.

STEP2
Measurement・photographing・inspection of head
We will measure, photograph and make a mould for android. In cases where the model is no longer alive or is a fictional character, the client will provide references. Production begins with the head section.

STEP3
Production of body
Assembling, piping and wiring of the body section and creating the voice. Once the body is assembled, an outer surface is attached and appearance examined.

STEP4
Operation check・Delivery
We will create the android’s movement programme, according to scenarios provided by the client and organize deliver, after a final inspection.

STEP1 Specify requirements

Select facial expressions
Different types of facial expressions for the Android, will be decided, based on provided reference materials, such as photographs and videos etc. The client will then select the face base and A-Lab will design different facial expressions to replicate various emotions.
STEP2 Measurement・photographing・inspection of head
We will measure, photograph and make a mould for android. In cases where the model is no longer alive or is a fictional character, the client will provide references. Production begins with the head section.
3D scanning・measurement・molding
A-Lab will 3D-scan, measure, photograph and make a mould (when possible) of the original model’s full body including the head, both arms, and both legs. When the model is no longer alive or is a fictional figure, we ask the client to provide videos, photos or any other forms of information that can be used as references. Videos and photos taken from multiple angles help improve the replication.
Create clay mould of head part
Based on the data from measurement and moulding process, we will create a clay-model of the head.
Inspection of head
Based on the collected data and clay-mould, A-Lab will then create a test-skin (without any hair, eyebrows, eyelashes etc.) which will provide the client with an opportunity to check the head shape and basic facial expressions. Clients should request revisions to the head at this stage.
STEP3 Production of body
Assembling, piping and wiring of the body section and creating the voice. Once the body is assembled, an outer surface is attached and appearance examined.

We will create the android body.
Attach exterior parts, transplant hair and paint complexion
The unique silicon skin is produced and attached, along with the wig, and the eyebrows and hairline are transplanted. The silicon is then painted and/or made-up and the finishing touches added to the skin.
Create and record voice
Production of android’s voices. Where recorded voices are to be used, we will do the recording.
Inspect appearance and give finishing touches
Client to check the appearance of the whole body.
STEP4 Operation check・Delivery
We will create the android’s movement programme, according to scenarios provided by the client and organize deliver, after a final inspection.

A programme of movements, facial expressions and voices then is created, based on the expected scenarios provided.
Overall inspection
Overall inspection by the client including checks of facial expressions and movements.
Final adjustments
Any final adjustments are made and finishing touches completed.
Acceptance Inspection・Delivery
The android is delivered to designated location.
